This accredited IME program was designed to elevate patient-centered care in generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG) through a phased educational sequence, integrating lived experience, therapeutic advances, and practical clinical tools for healthcare professionals.
“Provider education is so critical… even more exciting that you are committed to including the patient voice.”
Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America.
Embedding the patient voice through advocacy partnerships and lived experience.
- The program was co-developed with patient advocacy organizations including the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America and myaware, with patients serving as faculty contributors, reviewers, and storytellers.
- Patient–physician conversation anchored Phase 1, surfacing lived experience, unmet needs, and real-world barriers to care.
- Advocacy and patient involvement ensured education reflected what matters most to patients, particularly in a rare disease setting where lived experience is critical to meaningful care improvement.
Phased educational design to sustain engagement and meet learner needs.
- Aligned to learner readiness: Content was intentionally sequenced to evolve with learners — from understanding the patient experience, to applying new evidence, to taking action in practice.
- Patient–physician conversations built awareness of daily burden and unmet needs, expert podcasts translated emerging trial data into clinical insight, and practical toolkits supported real-world implementation.
Qualitative insights demonstrating meaningful practice impact.
- Learner reflections show a shift toward patient-centered care, with increased emphasis on understanding daily patient experience and integrating patient-reported outcomes (PROs) into treatment success discussions.
- Post-activity learner reflections consistently highlight intentions to refine clinical approach through shared goals, symptom discussions, and structured assessment tools.
- Faculty testimonials underscore the program’s value in summarizing rapidly evolving evidence, fostering multidisciplinary collaboration, and supporting effective patient care pathways.
By grounding education in patient voice, layering emerging clinical evidence, and offering practical resources, this phased program advances not only clinician knowledge but the translation of that knowledge into empathetic, patient-focused clinical practice.
“Understanding these daily realities allows healthcare providers to offer more empathetic and effective support.”
